The Big E! - The Grand Daddy of all Fairs AND Owl City! "Fireflies"

The Big E (map)

Selected By: Melinda "Mindy"

The Big E is the largest fair in the northeast with 175 acres of wonderment!! It's a New England extravaganza with top name entertainment, LIKE OWL CITY!! The Big E Super Circus, the Avenue of States, Storrowton Village Museum, animals, competitive exhibits, carnival rides, shopping, crafts, big boy toys, a Mardi Gras parade, and foods from around the world!! There is a lot of information below because this is a HUGE fair! I've been for years and had no idea it had all this stuff!!

Here are some of the many exciting things to see at the Big E

  • For the price of $29.95 see Owl City / Adam Young AND get admission to the fair!!
  • Maximum Velocity BMX Stunt Show Free style tricks!! Amazing things can happen! This group was recently featured on Extreme Home Makeover! Shows at 10:30, 12, 3:30, and 7!!
  • MARDI GRAS PARADE at 5PM! You can even buy a $10 ticket to don a provided costume, ride the float, and throw goodies and beads out to the spectators!! Check THAT one off your list!!
  • See the white tigers and trapeze artists at the FREE SUPER CIRCUS at 1, 4, or 7PM!!
  • Go back to the 19th century in Storrowton Village. They also have wine tastings at 2, 4, and 6.
  • Taste, feel, and shop the quintessential cultures of all six New England states in Avenue of the States
  • There is FOOD GALORE My favorite part!! It is the home of The Big E Cream Puff and Craz-E Burger (a bacon cheeseburger wrapped in a glazed donut!! See the Butter Sculpture which is made of more than 500 lbs of butter!
  • Crafts galore and GADGETS FOR GUYS!!!
  • Check out the horses - hunter, draft, and they even have the BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES!!
  • Go to Farm-A-Rama to see eggs hatching into fluffy chicks, piglets, giant pumpkins and gourds!
  • Check out the Dairy Barn and see their modern milking parlour, goat milking demos, and sheep shearing!
  • Musicians Hall of Fame
  • You can even download AUDIO TOURS to get the full history of all that is offered at the fair!

What? The Big E!!!
Where? 1305 Memorial Ave West Springfield, MA 01089
[masked]DIRECTIONS, GPS INFO, and MAP OF THE FAIR
When? Gate opens at 8am most exhibits and buildings open at 10am. This is a VERY popular place so best to get there early!
How? If you want to see OWL CITY at 8PM tickets are $29.95 and include admission to the fair. Otherwise tickets are $15 at the gate or buy advance TICKETS ONLINE by Sep 15th for $12. Parking at the fair is $10. For those who have been and think they'll go more than one day I highly recommend the VALUE PASS!! It's $40 for all 17 days!! For those of you who are first times DON'T BE FOOLED and buy a premium reserved ticket for the free concerts for $10. I don't think it's worth it. I've never done this but save 20% on select food items by buying a FOOD COUPON BOOKLET
Why? Why the heck not? It's the last blast of summer -- celebrate at The Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts!"

I don't know how we'd get seating together for Owl City. You could pay on the BLB site and I can reserve tickets or we could just pick a section and wing it. Any other ideas?

OK guys in hindsight I agree with Joe it's going to be a LONG day with lots of walking and I probably wouldn't last through a concert. So I'm going to personally fore go Owl City this time. Don't forget if you want to buy tickets at the $12 rate you need to by them online by Wed. If not you can buy them at the gate. We'll figure out a couple of times and places to meet up during the day. Yeah!!!!

This event sounds good to me. I live just across the border in NY, but would be happy to go via I-95 to carpool. I'd be happy to be one of the drivers too. Let me know.

Hi Melinda, the carpool idea sounds good, do you have a spot where we are going to meet at? i suggest the parking lots that are next to the highways by the entrance/exit of 95.

I'm going to hit the fair when it starts and I'll be starting off in the Better Living Center so you can always look for me there. Perhaps I'll wear my tiara so you all can find me easy! Plus it's always good to have an excuse to wear a tiara. [B-)]

For those of you who don't find me in the Better Living Center in the morning let's meet out front of the CT state house at 12:45 and maybe grab some grub together. I'd like to hit the stunt show at 3:30 and maybe the wine tasting at 6. C U Sat!!

I've been to the Big E many years, some of the stuff I was looking for wasn't there. In years past I would have left disappointed. I can say with an honest heart that this was the best year yet! Having new friends brought about a whole new Big E to me. We laughed, learned, and helped each other. Not to mention the amazing exercise we got! I've never gone to the circus but because Ashley was so excited about it, its now on my list. I also never saw chickens hatch & while it's an oddly slow & quick process at the same time, watching them pop up & bounce around was truly exciting, funny, & amazing all in one. I also never stopped to watch the parade & I've always wanted to catch some beads thrown out of their floats. Check and check!!! Going to the carnival side was fun too & I AM the bumper car princess. Lastly, witnessing the Craz-E burger was a blast! Thanks Joe for taking one for the team. Thank you all for my best year yet!!! The other things that changed within the

Had a GREAT time!! Much 2 C and eat. Our princess leader guided the boys effortlessly through a complex maze of shopping extravaganzas, we where bewildered to say the least. It’s amazing what a guy will do for beer. Just kidding, we bought “stuff” too.

This was my first Big E and I hope to get there every year! Simply amazing!
